Olaus Alinen announced his commitment to Alabama football Friday.
Alinen is rated as a four-star recruit, according to Touchdown Alabama. He chose the Crimson Tide over Miami, Georgia, Ohio State and Oregon. The new Alabama commit is originally from Finland. He moved to the United States prior to his junior season, and he quickly became one of the nation’s top offensive lineman prospects.
The Tide offered the rising senior in November after he showed constant improvement during the 2021 football season. Alinen has made multiple trips to Tuscaloosa over the last several months. His last trip was in June when he officially visited.
“I have been there a lot of times, so this trip was more like a relationship-building trip,” Alinen told Touchdown Alabama. “I was able to spend a lot of time with the players, and I got to hang out with the coaches. My family was able to learn a lot about Alabama. We just had a good time, ate some food and talked about some football.”
Alabama’s offensive line coach Eric Wolford and Nick Saban have managed to build a great relationship with Alinen. The four-star said he had a ‘good level of trust’ in Saban before he announced his commitment. The Alabama head coach has been consistent in his pitch to Alinen, and he hammered that message home during Alinen’s official visit.
“He did not promise me anything,” said Alinen. “He talked abut the opportunity you get once you are there. When you get there, you got to earn everything. We also discussed the resources they have there. They have everything you need to be great.”
Alinen currently stands at 6-foot-7, and he weighs approximately 300 pounds. He is projected to line up as an offensive tackle at the next level.
