Watford is a product of Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia. He is listed as a four-star edge player across multiple recruiting sites, and the sophomore currently holds more than 30 offers.
Watford’s head coach Dyrri McCain informed him of his offer from the Tide.
“I was very shocked,” Watford told Touchdown Alabama. “I think the Alabama program has had consistent success with winning. They know what it takes to get to the championship.”
Watford went on to give his thoughts on Nick Saban.
“I think heโs a very talented coach,” Watford said.
At 6-foot-6 and 235 pounds, Watford has the length coaches salivate over when it comes to edge-rushers. He plays with power and with a quick burst off the line of scrimmage. The new Alabama target is a terror for offenses at the high school football level.
The Virginia native feels his game will translate over to the next level.
“I think I set the edge well,” Watford said when asked what he feels he does well. “I rush off the edge with quickness, and I use my hands precisely when beating my opponent. I am also a vocal leader on the field with my teammates. I have the ability to stop the run anywhere. I think I have a skill set that can be developed and coached.”
