Alabama football’s freshman defensive back, Tony Mitchell received three years probation after being arrested on a marijuana charge.
Mitchell was also ordered to pay $1,560 in court fees and serve 100 hours of community service, according to court records.
The former five-star was arrested on March 15 and was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to sell and/or deliver. Nick Saban announced Mitchell was suspended following his arrest.
“Tony Mitchell is suspended from the team and all team activities until we gather more information about the situation and what his legal circumstance is,” Saban said during Alabama’s spring practice. “Everybody’s got an opportunity to make choices and decisions. There’s no such thing as being at the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Saban said there was ‘nothing new’ concerning Mitchell at the Nick’s Kids Golf Tournament Tuesday before the Alabama freshman received three years of probation.
Mitchell’s status with Alabama remains unclear.
