George Helow, 36, spent the 2021 and 2022 season on Jim Harbaugh’s staff, winning two Big Ten Conference Championships.

He brings a lot of energy and insight of Michigan’s system to the Crimson Tide. Alabama fans see this as a significant chess move from Saban, especially with him pursuing his eighth national championship. Helow’s new coaching role for the Tide has not been disclosed, but he comes in following Coleman Hutzler’s departure to Mississippi State as a defensive coordinator. Helow’s assistance will be marquee in getting Alabama ready to shut down whatever Michigan may throw at it on New Year’s Day.

Tide fans reacted to the move of hiring Helow via social media.
