The University of Alabama’s Board of Trustees made a monumental decision on Friday to honor Nick Saban by approving the name of ‘Saban Field’ at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Some felt that a certain venue in Atlanta (Ga.) should do the same, but that is not the case.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium opened in 2017, and Saban carried a career 8-0 record in it.

He captured four Southeastern Conference Championships (2018, 2020, 2021, and 2023) inside MBS and a College Football Playoff National Championship to finish the 2017 season.

Saban experienced the most significant emotional swing of his life in the 2018 CFP National Championship Game inside MBS as Tua Tagovailoa completed a 41-yard, game-winning touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith in overtime versus Georgia to secure a 26-23 victory.

He was very successful at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, yet the venue joked on social media that it will not honor Saban by naming its facility after him.

MBS still considers Saban the greatest of all time to coach in college football.

It is a special time for the Saban family as the icon coach and man is getting his flowers.
