Are Alabama’s tight ends prime for breakout game against Tennessee?

Alabama’s tight ends have been used sparsely throughout the first six games of the season.

This trend could change in week eight against Tennessee.

Alabama’s tight ends have combined for 21 receptions for 235 yards and one touchdown. Given Tennessee’s struggles to defend opposing tight ends, this seems to be the perfect time to utilize the tight ends in the passing attack.

CJ Dippre and Josh Cuevas have made the most of their opportunities thus far. Each of them have been reliable weapons for quarterback Jalen Milroe in the passing game. It just seems like their “big game” is coming sooner rather than later.

Opposing tight ends have reeled in 15 receptions for 154 yards and one touchdown against the Volunteers this season. In the past two games alone, Arkansas tight end Luke Hasz and Florida tight end Arlis Boardingham combined to have four receptions for 56 yards and one touchdown.

Given the fact that Tennessee’s defense recently lost leading tackler Keenan Pili to a season-ending injury, the Crimson Tide could look to exploit the youth and inexperience in the Volunteers linebacker room. It seems to be worth monitoring as Alabama looks to have a strong offensive performance against a very good Tennessee defense. Could this be the game where Alabama’s tight ends breakout and become a crucial aspect of the offense’s passing attack?
