Kane Wommack details how LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy could attack Alabama

One of the best wide receivers in college football is ready to tussle with Alabama’s defensive secondary.

Kyren Lacy, a transfer from Louisiana-Lafayette or Louisiana, has been exceptional for Louisiana State University.

Former Alabama QB believes LSU QB is best throwing QB in SEC

A Louisiana native, Lacy is coming off his third 100-yard receiving performance of the season versus Texas A&M. The Tigers suffered a 23-38 loss to the Aggies, but Lacy had five catches for 106 yards. The 6-foot-2, 213-pounder can do it all at the position from executing routes to making contested receptions. He gives Garrett Nussmeier, LSU’s starting quarterback, all the confidence in the world with his ability to make plays. Lacy has 41 catches for 618 yards receiving and six touchdowns for the Tigers.

Kane Wommack, Alabama’s defensive coordinator, knows Lacy very well. He coached against the talented receiver in the Sun Belt Conference during his tenure as South Alabama’s head coach. Wommack was with the Jaguars from 2021 to 2023, and he faced Lacy in 2021 in his time with the Ragin’ Cajuns. Lacy’s team earned a 20-18 victory over Wommack’s group, and he finished the year with 22 catches for 304 yards and six touchdowns. Wommack highlighted Lacy in Monday’s presser for LSU week.

“I remember Kyren when he was in the Sun Belt at Louisiana in my first year as head coach at South Alabama,” Wommack said.

“I think he transferred the year after in 2022. He is a long, physical presence. Does a great job with the ball in the air, makes contested catches. I think he has grown so much as a route runner. He is someone you can tell Nussmeier trusts. He can run and has all the tools as a receiver.”

Alabama legend reacts to the possibility of Crimson Tide facing Texas in 12-team CFP

Alabama faces the best quarterback in the Southeastern Conference with Garrett Nussmeier and an elite receiver in Lacy on Saturday at Tiger Stadium. Wommack’s defensive secondary has to be on its A game. Domani Jackson or Zabien Brown will have the daunting task of trying to limit Lacy’s production. He will use his size and other parts of his skill set to offset the Tide’s cornerbacks. It should be interesting to see how the Crimson Tide will go about trying to shut down Lacy on the outside.
