ESPN playoff expert explains main reason committee will put Miami over Alabama

Alabama and Miami are going to be pitted up against one another a lot over the next week or so as both are hoping to make the College Football Playoff.

The Hurricanes will not have an opportunity to secure a guaranteed spot in the playoff with them missing the ACC title game. The Crimson Tide are in the same boat with them not playing in the SEC Championship game. Alabama is 9-3, and Miami is 10-2.

The Tide currently have more wins over ranked teams than Miami. However, ESPN senior writer and playoff expert, Heather Dinich feels the committee will favor Miami because of its offense.

“This is the biggest question for the selection committee on Tuesday night as to whether Miami is in or out,” Dinich said. “In my bracket this week, I have them projected at number 11 and still in the College Football Playoff because this selection committee likes this offense and Cam Ward. They like close losses. This was on the road. I just have a feeling that selection committee chair Ward Manuel is going to talk about those close losses as he has with other teams. They’ve already referenced that in the loss to Georgia Tech earlier this season when they were talking about Miami. So, the Canes to me are still in, at least for right now.”

The next College Football Playoff ranking will be release Tuesday, and it will reveal how the committee ultimately feels about the Tide and the Hurricanes.
