Alabama might have found punter James Burnip’s replacement in the transfer portal on Sunday evening.
Colorado School of Mines punter Blake Doud announced that he was transferring to Alabama via X.
Doud spent four seasons with the Orediggers. As a redshirt junior, Doud was named a First-Team All-RMAC selection. In 2024, Doud had 41 punts for 1,909 yards. He averaged 46.6 yards per punt. His longest punt of the season was 80 yards.
To put things into perspective, Burnip had 44 punts for 2,155 yards. He averaged 44.9 yards per punt. His longest punt of the season was 64 yards.
Undoubtedly, Alabama’s coaching staff found a hidden gem in the transfer portal. The transfer portal will be pivotal in helping shape and mold the roster for the 2025-2026 season. Doud is the first transfer that the Crimson Tide have landed as a part of the 2025 recruiting class. He will be joined by 2025 three-star punter Alex Asparuhov. The two will likely compete for the starting punter job in the spring and into the fall.
