Jalen Milroe raves about Alabama QB signee Keelon Russell

Jalen Milroe commented on his potential successor at the quarterback position in Alabama football’s five-star signee, Keelon Russell, on Thursday.

Milroe met with media following Thursday’s practice and was asked about his thoughts on the Duncanville High School product after Russell officially signed with Alabama last week. The Texas native was excited to talk about the fellow Texas product.

“I’m excited for him and his future,” Milroe said. “He’s a Texas kid, I’m a Texas kid, so to have another Texas guy in the building is going to be awesome. I know he’s going to be coached absolutely at his best by Coach Sheridan, Coach DeBoer. So, he’s in good hands here.”

Milroe then went on to compliment Russell on his stellar play during his senior season. A season where Milroe says Russell has been dynamic throwing 53 touchdowns, 3,874 yards and just four interceptions through 13 games for Duncanville high school.

“He’s a really good player,” Milroe said. “Really good player. Dynamic. He’s a special cat. There’s a reason why he’s the number one quarterback in the state of Texas, in the country.”

Russell and Milroe have talked on several occasions during Russell’s visit to Tuscaloosa.

“I enjoy being around him,” Milroe said. “I’ve been able to meet him a couple times here at the facility and at the stadium. Cool cat. Every single time I get to talk to him I like to pour into him, Because that’s the biggest thing, just being able to talk to a guy that’s been in the process before. That’s something I try to do for him is give him my knowledge since I’ve been here and pour into him.”

It will be interesting to see what the Alabama quarterback room looks like in 2025 with the addition of Russell and Milroe’s pending decision following the 2024 season.
