Former Alabama football quarterback, Greg McElroy issued Kalen DeBoer a letter grade after his first season as the head coach of the Crimson Tide.
McElroy issued the grade on the latest episode of “Always College Football.”
The National Champion gave DeBoer a B- and detailed why he went with the grade.
“The first year started, that was a 9-4 record for Kalen DeBoer, and there were some challenges, some adjustments, some roster tinkering that were very difficult,” McElroy said. “I think that they were remarkably inconsistent from start to finish almost on a week to week basis. You’d watch them, you’d say ‘wow, I mean that’s the way it’s supposed to look.’ And then you’d watch them and be like, ‘my goodness, what was that?’ There were levels of inconsistency that were really hard to wrap your head around…it was just constantly a roller coaster and that is something that is going to be very important for the staff to try to iron out.”
McElroy went on to say Alabama’s loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl heavily impacted his decision to give the grade.
“I do think the bowl loss was one that is more difficult to get over than I think a lot of people are probably giving it credit,” said McElroy. “Look, the bowl games are bowl games at this point, but had he won the bowl game against Michigan, I think this could have taken this grade into a different level.”
