Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer made the trip from Tuscaloosa to Mobile on Tuesday morning to attend the Reese’s Senior Bowl practice. DeBoer met with the media to answer some questions while in attendance.

One of the things that DeBoer was asked about was the addition of assistant defensive backs coach Jason Jones. DeBoer about Jones and what he brings to the table.

”It actually kind of surprised me when I brought his name up to the coaching staff. I did not realize how many connections and when I dove into those connections a little more of the same things kept coming out about who he is as a person, how great he is at recruiting… the X’s and O’s. The player development piece and with him being a local alum was an added bonus.”

In addition, DeBoer elaborated on Jones being able to coach alongside defensive backs coach Maurice Linguist.

“We were kind of looking for the right combination as we work into the defensive backs and the coaching of that group as a whole. I love what we have there with Mo Linguist and now Jason Jones.”

Jones played at Alabama from 1996-2000. Following his playing days, Jones began his coaching career. Since making that decision, he has a been a part of a lot of different coaching staffs including Alabama, Indiana, Florida Atlantic, Rice, Oklahoma State, and most recently the cornerbacks coach at North Carolina.

He will be instrumental on the recruiting trail in the state of Alabama and look to assist in coaching Alabama’s secondary in 2025.
