One thing that could pay dividends for Alabama during the 2025 season is the familiarity among the coaching staff. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer has assembled a coaching staff that is familiar with one another. Several members of the coaching staff have previously coached together at previous stops.
A handful of Alabama’s assistant coaches were a part of Kalen DeBoer’s coaching staff at Washington. The list includes newly hired offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, offensive coordinator JaMarcus Shephard, offensive assistant Nick Sheridan, assistant director of player personnel Jerret McElwain, general manager Courtney Morgan, and inside linebackers coach Chuck Morrell. In addition, defensive coordinator Kane Wommack and assistant defensive backs coach Jason Jones coached under DeBoer at Indiana. Altogether, there is a great sense of familiarity that should bode well for the Crimson Tide moving forward.
The relationships among coaches that were previously built will only continue to grow over the course of time. Continuity is something that is essential in developing a successful college football program and is helpful in sustaining continuous growth. This coaching staff will need to work effortlessly to ensure that Alabama can return to ‘the standard’ that was set by former Alabama head coach Nick Saban. The cohesiveness and familiarity could go a long way as Alabama looks to push for a conference championship and spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff.
