Alabama football’s running back, Jam Miller has the potential to be the straw that stirs the drink on offense for newly-hired offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb in 2025.
Miller comes off a junior season in Tuscaloosa where he carried the ball 145 times for 668 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
Multiple signs point to Miller having more opportunities to be more productive in 2025. Here is a look at three:
1. Changing of the guard at quarterback:
The Alabama offensive attack will undergo a changing of the guard at quarterback in 2025 with the departure of two-year starter, Jalen Milroe, to the NFL. Grubb and his offensive staff will more than likely lean on the services of their run game and utilize Miller to his maximum potential. A dependable run game will take pressure off the offense and will also give Grubb more time to help usher in Alabama’s new signal caller.
2. Grubb’s previous offenses featured running backs with high volumes of carries:
When Grubb served as an offense coordinator, rushing leaders saw a high volume of carries in his offenses. Recent examples of this being the case are Dillion Johnson at Washington and Ronnie Rivers at Fresno State. Johnson accounted for 223 carries, 1,195 rushing yards and led the PAC-12 with 16 touchdowns. Rivers led the Mountain West in touchdowns with 13 scores and 899 rushing yards.
3. Jam Miller has proven he can catch the football out of the backfield
Miller has made the most out of his limited targets out of the backfield at Alabama during the last two seasons. He finished the 2024 season with 155 yards and 16 receptions and a touchdown. A reliable safety valve out of the backfield for a new quarterback could prove to be very valuable in 2025.
