Alabama football’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb revealed Wednesday Ty Simpson took the biggest jump from day one of spring practice to day two.
Simpson is the Crimson Tide’s most experienced quarterback. He was a five-star recruit as a member of the 2022 recruiting class. The experience Simpson has garnered during his time as a collegiate quarterback is showing through two practices.
“I think Ty has done a good job,” Grubb said. “I thought he had the biggest jump from day one to day two, just as far as being able to take in all the information process quickly and move. Austin’s (Mack) done a really good job of showing command for a young player. And then Keelon (Russell) is awesome. He’s very unflappable. And even when things don’t go right, and they will for a freshman quarterback, I think he’s done awesome job, just kind of staying the course and being very steady, and he can make a lot of plays.”
The Tennessee product has had to wait for his opportunity to be the main guy in Tuscaloosa behind Jalen Milroe for the last two years. This is something Grubb appreciates.
“The thing I like and appreciate about Ty already, that I can tell, is he’s very serious about wanting to succeed,” said Grubb. “I think he’s had the mindset that he’s been ready in that he’s kind of waiting in the wings, so to speak. I know that he’s committed to the process, and I think that that’s what makes great quarterbacks.”
Alabama’s three-way quarterback battle is still very much underway as the Tide looks to close out its first week of spring practice.
