Alabama football defeated the Georgia Bulldogs earlier this season, and it catapulted the Crimson Tide in a position to control its own destiny after losing to Florida State to open the season.
The Bulldogs used the loss as an opportunity to reset itself and focus on the goals Georgia still had on the table. Kirby Smart and company went on to finish the season without suffering another loss. They eventually earned the No. 4 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings.
Alabama came into Athens in September and jumped out on the Bulldogs 14-0. The Tide rode this early advantage to a 24-21 win. Alabama’s offense finished the game with 280 passing yards and 117 yards on the ground.
Ty Simpson had one of his most impressive games of the season, throwing for 276 yards and two touchdowns, with a 90.2 QBR.
Georgia and Alabama are now set to meet again in the SEC Championship, and the Bulldogs’ linebacker, Raylen Wilson, who had six total tackles against Alabama earlier this season, feels the loss gave Georgia valuable insight on the Tide.
“I feel like we learned just about how their offense likes to attack us,” Wilson said. “They have a pretty mobile quarterback. He’s a good thrower. I mean, they’re a pretty balanced offense.”
Wilson went on to compliment Simpson’s athleticism.
“I feel like he’s more athletic than people give him credit for,” Wilson added.
Alabama and Georgia will get after it in the game with a lot of things riding on it on Saturday in the SEC Championship. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CST.
