ESPN college football insider and senior writer Pete Thamel feels the Michigan head football coaching search starts with Kalen DeBoer.
DeBoer is currently Alabama football’s head coach, and he is preparing his team for the first round of the College Football Playoff. Thamel expects some clarity about whether there is even any interest from DeBoer to come soon.
“Michigan, institutionally, feels they can go get a great coach,” Thamel said as a guest on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “The conversation about this is going to start with Kalen DeBoer of Alabama. Whether he wants to go, whether Michigan can get him, whether the timing could work would remain to be seen. I would be skeptical just having been around this long enough that Kalen DeBoer could navigate the high wire to leave in the middle of the playoff. And also no one has indicated that he’d be interested at all either. So, I would expect some clarity on that fairly soon just because from the second this job opened, his name was the first one to emerge.”
Alabama returns to action on Friday, Dec. 19, when the Tide travels to Norman to take on Oklahoma.
