UA’s SGA backs off push suggesting student sections wear certain colors

The University of Alabama’s Student Government Association is backing off their push that suggested students wear certain colors at football games.

Yesterday, Alabama football fans and students dragged UA’s SGA for making a social media post about what colors the student section should wear at games this season. After receiving negative feedback, UA’s SGA and Panhellenic Association Instagram accounts deleted the posts.

Alabama football is known for having a winning culture, an exciting gameday atmosphere and memorable traditions, but wearing the same color to games is not a gimmick the Crimson Tide subscribe to. Alabama football’s on-field product is why the program maintains relevancy and interest.

Probably the most ridiculous part of the color schedule UA’s SGA posted online is that the theme for Alabama’s game against Florida State on Sept. 19 was black and white. This game will start at 2:30 pm CT, and the suggestion was one that included wearing black in the blazing Alabama sun in Tuscaloosa at 2:30 pm CT in September.

Perhaps the other part was that SGA wanted to do a white out against Georgia, and Alabama football fans know a thing or two about Georgia doing gimmicks before playing big games. The Bulldogs will likely never do a blackout against Alabama because the Crimson Tide beat them in 2008 and ruined their fun.

Due to a negative reaction from Alabama fans and students, it looks like fan’s choice will be the theme for every game going forward, and fan’s choice has already been the idea for decades.
