Alabama’s defense struggled on Saturday afternoon against FSU.
The Tide ultimately won the game 50-36, but numerous defensive errors resulted in the Seminoles gaining momentum early on. Alabama’s defense as a whole allowed 471 total yards while also surrendering five touchdowns, as the unit will undoubtedly need to play at a much higher level entering the heart of SEC play next weekend.
Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack took a moment to comment on the Tide’s defensive errors, as Wommack claims the secondary as a whole was pissed following Saturday’s win.
“Yeah, they’re pissed. And they should be pissed.” Wommack said. “They did not do there job at a high enough level, and they are very capable of doing that. They are disappointed in themselves, the blame cannot be put on any one person. We had 9 explosives, and really there were two guys who were apart of those explosives, outside of that they were one offs. And so when you do that though, all it takes is one guy here and one guy there to have a truly highly disappointing day. They have a sense of urgency to get it fixed and they will.”
Wommack and the Tide’s defense were nothing short of elite through the first two weeks of the 2026 season. The unit will have an excellent opportunity to bounce back this weekend against South Carolina, and Wommack’s comments are certainly an encouraging sign moving forward.
