Alabama DC Kane Wommack using Tide’s 2015 defense as motivation to get better

Alabama football’s defensive coordinator Kane Wommack recently discussed the Crimson Tide’s 2015 defense with his players.

Wommack revealed this on Monday while talking to reporters.

“We have an opportunity to be a very good defense here this year,” Wommack said. “You look back over the last decade and really the 2015 and ’16 defense are probably the last 2 truly dominating defenses that we have had here. And the 2015 defense in the first three games gave up 10 points and 17 points, just exactly like we did. And then the 3rd game of the season, they gave up 43 points at home and lost the football game. And what did they do from that point? They responded with a sense of urgency and went on to be one of the best defenses in the country and won a national championship. So everything is ahead of us, but we got to have a sense of urgency to get it fixed. Starts with me as the coordinator. I know our players as we’ve already met with them as coaches, and I met with them again this morning.”

The 2015 Alabama defense helped the Crimson Tide secure a National Championship. The Tide lost to Ole Miss 43-37 at home during the regular season. Alabama went on to defeat Clemson 45-40 in the National Championship.

Wommack hopes his Alabama defense can put a similar response together this season after giving up 36 points to Florida State last Saturday.
