For someone who is trying to prove he deserves another crack at the National Football League, Trent Richardson is not backing down. He got off to slow starts in back-to-back games for the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football League; however, the fourth quarter has seemed to allow the former All-American to revisit his college roots of Alabama football.
After punching in a pair of touchdowns in the Iron’s 26-0 win over Memphis, Richardson came through with under five minutes left in regulation on Saturday versus the Salt Lake Stallions.

In a matchup dominated by defense and special teams, he recorded his third rushing score of the season from inside five yards – to give Birmingham a 12-9 lead.
Despite being hampered with a hamstring issue, Richardson showed the energy, toughness and heart in the fourth quarter that made him a fan favorite in his three seasons with the Crimson Tide from 2009 to 2011.
With better effort from the offensive line, Richardson can take his late heroics in meetings and channel them to being a consistent part of his game. He has also turned in decent numbers as a receiver, catching seven passes for 64 yards with an average of 9.1 yards per reception.

Birmingham is now 2-0 after the win and will remain at Legion Field for a third straight week as Richardson and company will host Atlanta on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 3:00 pm CT.
