It has three names in the heat of a quarterback competition, but the University of Alabama football program now has a fourth name that is garnering attention.

He came from a powerhouse high school program in north Georgia, but the former four-star has elite traits.

Dylan Lonergan was a pitcher for Brookwood High School, and his ability to process information has Crimson Tide fans excited about his future for Alabama football. The 6-foot-2, 212-pounder recorded a touchdown pass in the Tide’s spring game in April at Bryant-Denny Stadium, but his first scrimmage was impressive. People are discussing Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson, and Tyler Buchner, but will Lonergan provide signs of a former freshman quarterback that came off the bench for the Tide and became a household name? Tua Tagovailoa was that signal-caller in 2017, as he replaced Jalen Hurts in the national championship game.

Corey Miller, a former linebacker in the National Football League, attended the scrimmage last week.

He shared with The Bama Standard on Tuesday that Lonergan is a difference maker.

“I like the freshman,” Miller said.

“I am going to tell you that right now. I like Lonergan. That dude has it. He is smart, he gets you in and out of the right play, he does not make mistakes, and he has a good arm. We are looking at other guys, but we need to be aware of this guy.”

Miller said Lonergan is playing with ‘zero pressure.’

“He may get snaps against Middle Tennessee State,” Miller said.

Nick Saban has different guys in the quarterback room he can go to. We could see a couple of quarterbacks against the Blue Raiders to open a decision, but the Tide has to be confident in someone for the Texas matchup. Saban highlighted Lonergan’s ability to process information during spring practice. It is going to interesting to watch how he continues to progress.
