He was one of a few electrifying wide receiver prospects for Alabama football in the 2022 class.
Kobe Prentice, a sophomore, had some big moments in his freshman season — catching 31 passes for 337 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games. He displayed an ability to break tackles in the Allstate Sugar Bowl versus Kansas State, taking a 47-yard reception from Bryce Young for a score. People expected an increase in production from him, but is he becoming the No. 3 option in the passing game for Jalen Milroe? Prentice is tied with tight end Amari Niblack for third on the team in receptions (11).

He has 186 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown in last week’s 24-21 victory over Arkansas. Prentice, a native of Calera, Ala., averages 16.9 yards per catch. Mike McCoy, a former Alabama wide receiver, trained Prentice at Maximum Performance Institute before he arrived on the University of Alabama campus. McCoy, a 2009 BCS National Champion, saw Prentice’s competitive fire and was happy to see him in No. 80 last year. The 5-foot-10, 182-pounder switched to No. 6 this season, but he remains an asset.
Jermaine Burton and Isaiah Bond have established themselves as two primary options.
Burton, a senior, leads the group for receiving yards (446) and touchdowns (four). Bond, a sophomore, leads the unit in receptions (20) and has 283 yards with two touchdowns. Burton equaled his number of 100-yard performances from last season and has a new career-high for yards. He had 197 yards on nine receptions with two touchdowns in a 26-20 win over Texas A&M.
Prentice showed in 2022 that he has it in him to be a go-to target. It is time for Alabama to start incorporating him more.
