Alabama football has young players in its defensive secondary, but a former safety is making sure his position becomes a significant strength for the Crimson Tide's defense in the fall.

Justin Woodall, a 2009 BCS National Champion, has several defensive backs with him this summer.

He is working on their form in press coverage, technique, and eye control. Woodall, a native of Oxford, Miss., made sure Nick Saban got his first Southeastern Conference title and national championship with the Tide in '09. He collected 45 tackles from his safety position, including 2.5 for loss. Woodall also totaled five pass breakups and three interceptions that year. He is putting in time with Malachi Moore, DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Mbakwe (freshman), and Brayson Hubbard in the secondary. Woodall shared a video to X of him coaching all four players at Thomas Drew Field in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Tim Kennan III, a defensive lineman, jumped into the training lesson as well.

Alabama's biggest strength on defense could possibly be its cornerbacks and safeties.

The Tide has experience and talent on the back end.
