The 2016 recruiting class is set to produce some of the best talent in the state of Alabama in quite some time. With players such as Ben Davis, Lyndell Wilson, and Marlon Davidson receiving the most notoriety, others are left waiting their turn to be mentioned as one of the greats.
Shawn Jennings is one of those players. Just northeast of Montgomery, Jennings resides in Dadeville, Al, and is an upcoming senior for Dadeville High School. Blessed with great size at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Jennings is a star two-way player for the Tigers and hopes to continue his stardom on the next level.
Jennings recently spoke to Touchdown Alabama about his recruitment and his offseason. “I’ve been working on footwork and ball skills,” said Jennings. As far as his recruiting goes, “I’ve been offered by a lot of smaller schools, but Alabama, Auburn, and Memphis are my top 3.”
Jennings doesn’t currently have a favorite, but is being recruited by Kirby Smart of the Tide and believes he knows why they are interested and what he brings to the table. “I don’t have a favorite team, (but) I’ll give you someone with size and will hit and also play in coverage.”
Jennings is looking forward to his senior year and believes this team can accomplish something special. “I think we should win the state championship.”
While he’s not in a position to name a front runner, Jennings is eager to one day suit up for a college team. “It will be something I’ve always dreamed of, just a blessing!”
Like most kids, Jennings keeps his ear out to what’s being said about him and other top players, and he feels he’s right there with them. According to him, “If it was up to me, I’d be a 5-star and the best player in the country. I’m willing to put in work while people are sleep *laughter* but that’s me.”
