Athletic Measurables

Of all the 2016 commits, there is none more physically impressive than Kendell Jones of Texas. If this kid is not the definition of a “plug”, I don’t know what is. He is 360 pounds, but is almost like a brick wall with little body fat. He could step in tomorrow morning and be a dominant defensive plug for Alabama. It would be no surprise to see Jones become an immediate impact as a freshman.

Instincts & Technique

There’s a reason they call Kendell Jones, “The Hulk”. He is a massive human being with the athleticism of a linebacker. He is a very consistent guy as far as explosiveness off the snap goes, he can get out of his stance and hit you with a strong punch, shedding any double team you put on him. He has the skills to become a dominant run stopper for the Crimson Tide.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths: The upside for Jones is almost incomparable. He has the frame to be one of the nation’s most intimidating athletes and has no need to build on it any more. He shows great athleticism as well as strength and is nearly unstoppable when bull rushing.

Weaknesses: There is not much wrong with Jones’ game, he’s very advanced in his techniques for his age. If anything, he just needs to remember to take a power step first instead of jumping into the block right off of the snap.

Reminds Me Of:

Between Kendell Jones’ monstrous size and great technique, he reminds me of current defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson mixed with former defensive lineman Quinton Dial.
