With what could quite possibly be the worst comeback in a rap battle in history, the highly anticipated response from rapper Meek Mill to Drake’s “Charged Up” and “Back to Back” flopped worst than sixty percentĀ of the NBA’s players.

Now, as a guy who has given up any form of secular music, I initially stayed away from the whole situation, but the obsession of the entire world was too much to ignore especially for anyone on social media. While I have yet to hear the first warning shot by Drake in “Charged Up” — which apparently isĀ irrelevant now — I did take a listen to the immediate punch to the throat after the warm up gut punch delivered and came away slightly impressed.

As a former hip-hop head and rap aficionado, I could always appreciate a good back and forth battle of two lyricists expressing themselves and their disdain for one another over wax.

However, this was nothing of the sort as a back and forth typically consists of a meaningful opponent who has something to offer. Take for instance the 2014 Iron Bowl. The contest was so thrilling as one team appeared to be out for the count early, and constant blows were delivered as a heavy-weight title fight commenced right before our eyes as two great teams refused to relent to the other until the final bell — or whistle blew.

Drake may have possibly ended whatever career Meek had left after the bombs he dropped on his second track such as — “Trigger fingers turning into Twitter fingers.” While there are much more, I’ll refrain from posting due to language — but for those who’ve already listened to it, you understand.

Now that brings me to Meek’s reaction — which took all of five days after being allowed to breathe life as a courtesy of Drake.

Let me remind you again, I remember good battles. I remember the Tupac/Notorious B.I.G. beef, LL Cool J/Canibus, the Jay-Z/Nas back and forth’s — heck, even the 50 Cent/JaRule beef was more entertaining as a whole than what Meek came back with with his “Wanna Know” diss.

Granted, this was my first time ever listening to Meek and he reminded me why my gospel music is way more fulfilling and how I’m missing absolutely nothing with rap these days. His flow was terrible, and the track as a whole left so much to be desired, I can’t find one punch line that deserves to be mentioned with Drake’s worst line.

According to many Alabama players, they felt the same. While posting on social media, one player mentioned, “I know Drake laughin at Meek right now lol.” Another player stated, “He was just doing to much lowkey. He probably got some fire coming next though.” (That remains to be seen)

The entire team’s reaction would be too much to talk about, but they were not the only disappointed hip-hop fans. Countless tweets and memes directed at Meek pretty much urged him to retire. Someone even edited his Wikipedia page suggesting he died in Toronto last night (Drake’s hometown).

While the beef hopefully subsides, the Alabama players will begin to focus on next week’s fall camp where they will gear up on another season in which high expectations again are placed on them. They were voted preseason No. 3 in the Amway Coaches Poll and have been given what is reported as the nation’s toughest schedule.

While Alabama players are dumbfounded by hip-hop’s latest flop. Tide fans wanna know if No. 16 will be coming back to T-Town.
