Former Alabama left guard Arie Kouandjio had the spotlight on him during Wednesday’s session of Redskins’ training camp. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Kouandjio anchored an Alabama offensive line that blocked for 206.6 rushing yards per game and allowed 16 sacks last season. He was a part of two national championship teams (2011, 2012) and won a Southeastern Conference title in 2012.
Steven Czarda, associate writer for redskins.com., said Kouandjio is feeling some of the difference with competing in the National Football League, as opposed to Alabama.
“The difference is guys are a little bit faster, guys are stronger,” Kouandjio said to Czarda.
Kouandjio said that Alabama did prepare him for the NFL, but it prepared him more so mentally.
Washington will welcome the Houston Texans to Richmond, Va., Thursday for a three-day session. Kouandjio will face elite competition in J.J. Watt and Louis Nix III.
The Redskins first preseason game is set for Aug. 13 against the Cleveland Browns.
