Jarran Reed
Defensive Tackle
Senior
6’3″
305 lb.
Alabama
Player Overview:
Jarran Reed joined the Alabama Crimson Tide in January of 2014 as a JUCO transfer and his impact was immediately noticed. Reed is the definition of a “plug” defensive tackle. At 6’3″, 305 pounds, he lines up next to A’Shawn Robinson (6’4″, 320 pounds) and there is not much you can do to stop that combination. His strength off of the line is nearly unmatched, he can overpower offensive linemen with ease because he always gets the correct leverage at the point of attack off of the snap.
Reed’s game IQ is very high and the 5 pass breakups he had last season show for that. He understands how to move bodies in the trenches and shed blocks as well as anyone on Alabama’s roster. Coming in from JUCO at 350 pounds, Reed was still a force and moved well for his size, but coming into 2015, he is weighing in at 305 pounds and looking even leaner than 305. He has been moving even better in practice and did not seem to lose any of his strength with the weight loss. Jarran Reed could solidify himself as a top-tier player this season with all the off-season work he has put in.
Stats: 54 Total Tackles ( 22 Solo, 32 Assisted), 5 pass breakups
Strengths: Power, Versatility, Game IQ
Weakness: His pass rush needs tweaking, but at 305 that could change this season
Player Comparison: “Reed reminds of a faster Haloti Ngata” – TDAM Senior Analyst Stephen M. Smith
Round Prediction: 2nd Round
