Alabama secured its homecoming last week with a 27-14 win over Arkansas. It now turns its attention to this week, as head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide will plan for a match-up against Texas A&M at Kyle Field. Alabama’s coaching staff named seven individuals as honorees for player of the week. Yours truly of Touchdown Alabama Magazine unveils the list.

Alabama offensive players of the week

  • RB Kenyan Drake
  • WR Calvin Ridley

Summary: Senior running back Kenyan Drake totaled 29 rushing yards and 37 receiving yards on 12 touches. He finished second on the team in receptions and receiving yards against Arkansas. Drake averaged 4.1 yards per carry on the ground.

True freshman wide receiver Calvin Ridley recorded his second 100-yard receiving performance on the year. He led the group, totaling nine catches for 140 yards. Ridley averaged 18.4 yards per reception, and his 81-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter gave Alabama’s offense a much needed spark. It outscored Arkansas 24-7 in the second half.

Alabama defensive players of the week

  • LB Reggie Ragland
  • DL A’Shawn Robinson
  • DL Jarran Reed

Summary: Senior inside linebacker Reggie Ragland had a monster game last week.

He led Alabama’s defense with eight total tackles, one tackle for loss, a sack, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and two quarterback hurries. Ragland was solid in run support, as Arkansas totaled 44 rushing yards as a whole. Coach Saban said Ragland had “one of his best games.”

Defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson put in five total tackles and a quarterback, while Jarran Reed had four tackles. Both guys held the Razorbacks to an average of 1.8 yards per carry.

Alabama special teams players of the week

  • P JK Scott
  • CB/RT Cyrus Jones

Summary: Sophomore punter JK Scott was effective last week.

He averaged 50 yards per punt, and placed two of his four attempts inside Arkansas’ 20-yard line. The Razorbacks had a difficult time driving the ball on Alabama’s defense.

Senior cornerback Cyrus Jones returned three punts for 39 yards, with a long of 27 yards.
