Could Spurrier Resignation Benefit Alabama Recruiting?

Official Twitter of P.J. Blue

With Steve Spurrier announcing his resignation on Monday, many are wondering what the fallout will be in terms of recruiting and whether or not Alabama could benefit by adding some of the players the Gamecocks are sure to lose.

It did not take long for the losses to begin as P.J. Blue, a 4-star safety and outside linebacker for Park Crossing High School in Montgomery, Alabama, announced his decommitment from South Carolina via Twitter within minutes of Spurrier’s final press conference as the Gamecocks’ head ball coach:

Blue is being recruited to Alabama by defensive line coach Bo Davis and defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. He is also looking at Tennessee, Kentucky and Clemson.

Another player that Alabama fans should keep an eye on is Marlon Character, a safety out of Grady High School in Atlanta, Georgia. Character is being recruited by Kirby Smart, as well. Although he has not shown any intention to decommit since the retirement of Spurrier, he has not reaffirmed his commitment either, posting this tweet instead:

Both Blue and Character have an offer from Alabama and could bolster the Crimson Tide defensive backfield alongside fellow 2016 safety Joshua Perry.
