Alabama defensive backs Eddie Jackson and Minkah Fitzpatrick had much to do with last week’s 41-23 win over Texas A&M. Both players were named the AutoNation National Co-Defensive Players of the Week, according to Football Writers Association of America.
Jackson and Fitzpatrick had two interceptions each. Jackson, a junior, totaled 119 return yards and a touchdown. His 93-yard pick six gave Alabama a 28-6 lead in the second quarter. Fitzpatrick, a freshman, collected 88 return yards and became the first Crimson Tide defender in program history to have two interceptions returned for touchdowns in the same game.
Both players each had two tackles, to pair with their takeaways. AutoNation, a charitable organization, will donate $1,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in Jackson’s and Fitzpatrick’s name. No. 8-ranked Alabama will host the Tennessee Volunteers this week.
