In the aftermath of Alabama coach Nick Saban winning his fifth national championship, the Football Writers Association of America released its Freshman All-America team.
Wide receiver Calvin Ridley and cornerback Marlon Humphrey both made the list for Alabama.
Ridley, 6-foot, 188 pounds, was Jacob Coker’s primary target. He caught 89 passes for 1,045 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Florida native totaled four 100-yard receiving performances, including 138 yards and two touchdowns on eight catches in a 38-0 win over the Michigan State Spartans.
Humphrey, 6-foot-1, 192 pounds, finished seventh on the team in tackles with 45.
He chimes in with 3.5 tackles for loss, eight pass breakups and two forced fumbles. Two of his three interceptions came in pivotal moments against Georgia and Florida.
Humphrey’s performance against Clemson in Monday’s national title game was solid. He collected five tackles, a tackle for loss and two pass breakups. The Hoover (Ala.) native changed the landscape of the game when he recovered an onside in the fourth quarter to set up a touchdown.
