In 1983, just 35 minutes up the road from Tuscaloosa was an inside linebacker by the name of Wayne Davis was standing out at Gordo High School and on his way to play for Ray Perkins at the University of Alabama. Wayne would go on to record 327 tackles over his career, a school record and play professional football.
Fast forward to February 3, 2016, the Gordo High School gym is packed to capacity and you can feel the tension in the air. Wayne Davis sits at a table with five hats in front of him, Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Auburn, but this time he sits as a father, watching his son Ben Davis, the nation’s number one linebacker make the decision of where he would play football for the next four years.
