AJ McCarron returns to Bengals after birth of Tripp

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron (No. 5) makes a pass vs. Ravens: Joshua Lindsey - USA TODAY Sports

The former Alabama standout and new member to fatherhood is ready to get back to work. Bengals’ backup quarterback AJ McCarron returned to the team for OTAs on Tuesday, after missing all of last week. He spent the week preparing for the birth of his son, Tripp, which happened on May 24.

According to Rebecca Toback of SB Nation (Cincy Jungle), McCarron made the child birth process easier for his wife, Katherine Webb-McCarron and the doctor. As he enters progression in his personal life, McCarron is ready for his third season in the National Football League.

He missed all of his rookie year in 2014, due to sustaining tendonitis in his throwing shoulder.

McCarron filled in admirably for Andy Dalton in 2015, after he injured his thumb in Week 13 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He accounted for 854 passing yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions on a 66.4 percent completion mark. McCarron helped Cincinnati advance to the playoffs with a 12-4 record, despite it losing to Pittsburgh 18-16 in the AFC Wildcard round.
