Baltimore Ravens running back Trent Richardson to undergo knee surgery

Trent Richardson has the confidence of an NFL running back, but needs the durability.

He will undergo arthroscopic knee injury after sustaining an injury at Ravens’ minicamp, per Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. Richardson, a former first-round pick, missed a week of organized team activities due to a hamstring injury. Despite the Ravens signing Richardson back on April 18, the former Alabama standout has to battle five running backs for an opportunity at a roster spot.

At Alabama, he was a unanimous All-American (2011) and two-time first team All-SEC selection (2010-11). Richardson set the school’s single-season rushing mark, totaling 1,679 yards and 21 touchdowns on 283 carries in 2011. He was awarded offensive player of the year, courtesy of the Southeastern Conference. Richardson ended his tenure with 3,860 career yards from scrimmage and 42 touchdowns. He was a member on two BCS national championship teams in 2009 and 2011.
