The New England Patriots are starting to see the value it has in its top pick of the 2016 NFL Draft– ex-Alabama cornerback Cyrus Jones. He stepped onto the field at Gillette Stadium (Foxborough, Mass.) on Thursday for the team’s preseason opener against New Orleans.
Saints’ quarterbacks Luke McCown and Garrett Grayson didn’t test Jones much, but the former Crimson Tide defender totaled three tackles and a fumble recovery in a 34-22 win for the Patriots.
Jones was one of few standouts for the Patriots throughout training camp and other offseason activities, prior to Thursday’s game. Learning under guys like Patrick Chung, Malcolm Butler and Devin McCourty will only make him better on a defense that will be tough when the season begins.
