TUSCALOOSA—He enrolled at Alabama under much hype, but the game is starting to slow down for Bo Scarbrough. After totaling 104 yards rushing and a touchdown in 2015, many expected Scarbrough to immediately fill the void left behind from Heisman winner—Derrick Henry.
The Tuscaloosa native had the size (6-foot-2, 228 pounds), power and speed to carry the task, however, reading too much into the press clippings hurt him a little to start the season.
Despite reaching the end zone against Southern California, Western Kentucky and Ole Miss, Scarbrough finally had his best overall performance last week on the road against Arkansas.
He averaged eight yards per carry, and totaled 56 yards rushing on seven attempts. The sophomore displayed a burst of speed on his 21-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. When asked about Scarbrough’s development as a total back, head coach Nick Saban responded with “he’s getting more and more confident.”
“He’s [Scarbrough] done a good job,” Saban said.
“He made a nice run in the last game for a touchdown. He’s going to be a factor for us, before the season’s over.”
Scarbrough chimes in with four rushing scores on the season. He started to pick up steam down the stretch last year, which led to all the offseason hype. The former five-star athlete will look to punish Tennessee’s defensive front on Saturday, as the Crimson Tide travels to Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn.
