TUSCALOOSA—NFL scouts got exactly what they wanted last week: a defensive slugfest. Despite the lone points coming in the fourth quarter, all 10 came from Alabama–as it escaped Tiger Stadium with a 10-0 win.
On Monday, the Southeastern Conference named Ryan Anderson and JK Scott as its players of the week.
Anderson, a senior, recorded six total tackles and held the Tigers to 125 yards of offense. He was also credited with a sack, a tackle for loss, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry, which resulted in Minkah Fitzpatrick’s team-high fourth interception of the season. The 6-foot-2, 253-pound linebacker was stellar against the run, holding Tigers’ star running back Leonard Fournette to 35 yards on 17 carries (2.1 average). Anderson and the Crimson Tide’s front seven limited quarterback Danny Etling and LSU’s offense to 2.5 yards per play.
Scott, a junior, kept the Tigers in rough field position. He totaled 258 yards on five punts, while dropping two attempts inside the 20-yard line. Four of his five boots traveled in excess of 50 yards, with the longest punt going for 66 yards. Scott averaged 51.8 yards per attempt, and had just three returned for 16 yards.
