Alabama defensive end Jonathan Allen was one of six candidates selected as a finalist for the 2016 Ted Hendricks Award, the foundation announced on Friday. Allen, a senior, is having an incredible season.
The 6-foot-3, 291-pounder anchors a unit that leads the nation in run defense (68.7 ypg), total defense (247 ypg) and scoring defense (11.4 ppg). The Crimson Tide is 10th in pass defense (178.1 ypg), while being sixth in sacks (41). As for his individual numbers, Allen leads the team in quarterback hurries (13), fumble recoveries (two) and touchdowns (two). He’s accounted for 52 total tackles, including 11.5 for loss and seven sacks.
Named after College Football and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Ted Hendricks, the award is presented to college football’s best defensive end. Joining Allen as finalists are: Derek Barnett (Tennessee), Hunter Dimick (Utah), Harold Landry (Boston College), Ejuan Price (Pittsburgh) and DeMarcus Walker (Florida State).
The final vote for the Hendricks’ honor will conclude on Dec. 6 and the winner will be announced on Dec. 7.
