The exodus at quarterback continues for Alabama.
After news broke on Monday regarding Cooper Bateman’s decision to transfer from the program, redshirt sophomore David Cornwell took to social media Wednesday to state his choice to leave the school.
Cornwell was regarded as one of the nation’s top pro-style quarterbacks in 2014, upon signing in the Crimson Tide’s recruiting class. The 6-foot-5, 228-pound Elite 11 signal caller was a household name at Norman (Okla.) North High School, totaling 3,497 yards and 33 touchdowns as a junior in 2012.
A knee injury would halt half of his senior year in 2013, prior to enrolling at Alabama.
With the Crimson Tide, Cornwell has been a member on three Southeastern Conference championship teams and a College Football Playoff national title squad in 2015. While Jalen Hurts won the starting job in week two of the season, bodies behind him are dwindling fast with both Bateman and Cornwell gone. The arrivals of Tua Tagovaiola and Mac Jones in 2017 have much to do with the latest attrition for the Tide under center.
