TUSCALOOSA, Ala.– Hope still remains for Louisiana State University and South Florida in attempts to acquire Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin. Kiffin, who was a top candidate for the Houston job, was spurned by the Cougars on Thursday as it promoted Major Applewhite to head coach.
The Lincoln, Neb., native has improved the Crimson Tide’s offense in his three seasons at Tuscaloosa.
He mentored the program to averaging 37.5 points and 461 total yards, while producing two 3,000-yard passers, a 2,000-yard rusher, two 1,000-yard receivers, two Heisman finalists, a Heisman winner and a Biletnikoff Award winner. Kiffin’s managed to create success with three different quarterbacks, including one that’s had a record-setting freshman year (Jalen Hurts).
With Willie Taggart accepting a head coaching job at Oregon and Ed Orgeron wanting to deliver the Tiger fan base a strong offense, both LSU and South Florida are intensifying their offers to land Kiffin.
This season, he’s has Alabama accounting for 40.5 points and 471.3 yards a game. The 41-year-old is fousced on winning a second straight national championship, but a move will be made in days to come.
