Alabama fans knew he was fast and now, the National Football League knows too.
Following his two seasons as a starter at the University of Alabama, Marlon Humphrey told the press that his target goal for today’s combine workouts was to run a sub 4.5 in the 40-yard dash.
While Marshon Lattimore (Ohio State) and Teez Tabor (Florida) are listed ahead of Humphrey at cornerback in this year’s draft class, the three-time Southeastern Conference champion and 2015 College Football Playoff national champion obtained a mark of 4.41 seconds—which placed him among the top performers.
Humphrey’s elite top-end and recovery speed came from years of playing both football and track at the established Hoover (Ala.) High School. A former five-star prospect, he accounted for 77 tackles, 31 pass breakups and 13 interceptions in football; while capturing seven Alabama state championship titles across all indoor and outdoor track events during his senior year in 2013.

Despite being susceptible to deep passes and issues in press coverage, Humphrey will create plays more times than not. He may have entered under the tag of his legendary father, Bobby Humphrey, but Marlon proved to be a solid tackler (81 tackles) with ball skills (five interceptions, one touchdown) in 2014 and 2015.

Per NFL.com, he’s poised to be a “good NFL starter” with a grade of 6.16.
