TUSCALOOSA, Ala.– He’s faced much criticism for his passing mechanics this spring, but sophomore quarterback Jalen Hurts rose to the occasion during Alabama’s first scrimmage.
Following a two-hour exhibition at Bryant-Denny Stadium, Nick Saban did something that he hasn’t done in a long time. He revealed statistics on the quarterbacks and in particular, the SEC’s Offensive Player of the Year.
“He’s (Hurts) got a good understanding of the pocket,” Saban said. “He completed over 50 percent of his passes and threw for four touchdowns. I don’t think he had an interception.”
To follow up Saban’s statement, a source close to TDAL Magazine said Hurts’ passing has technically gotten better with tighter spirals and a good display of zip on the football.
“He found ways to place balls perfectly into tight coverage,” the source said.
Listed at 6-2 and 214 pounds, the native Texan intends on building off a stellar freshman year.
Hurts accounted for 2,780 passing yards, 954 rushing yards and 36 total touchdowns, en route to guiding the Crimson Tide to an SEC championship, a Peach Bowl title and the College Football Playoff national title game.
