TUSCALOOSA, Ala.– After getting charged and arrested for driving under the influence on last week, Alabama senior defensive end Da’Shawn Hand was at practice today. He and junior Da’Ron Payne took the group through drills, under the eyes of defensive line coach Karl Dunbar.
Despite the DUI (technicality or not), head coach Nick Saban decided not to suspend Hand for the Crimson Tide’s season opener versus Florida State. He made it known following practice during his first presser of fall camp.
Hand, who has been twice named to the SEC’s Academic Honor Roll and one of the leaders of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, is expected to be a major contributor on this year’s defense. He totaled 21 tackles, including 3.5 for loss and two sacks last season.
