Alabama head coach Nick Saban may be receiving some heat following his decision to not suspend senior defensive end Da’Shawn Hand; however, his former offensive coordinator at Louisiana State University (Jimbo Fisher) is currently in a difficult situation himself.
Florida State’s junior wide receiver Da’Vante Phillips has been ‘indefinitely suspended’ due to facing five felony charges, according to a report from Jim Henry of the Tallahassee Democrat.

Before the news occurred, the four-star prospect and Miami (Fla.) native was in position to be a marquee contributor in the upcoming season. Phillips, who stands at 6-foot-1 and 206 pounds, is a product of Miami Central High School.
He signed in the Seminoles’ 2015 recruiting class, garnering attention at No. 44 on the ESPN 300 list. During his career with the Rockets, he turned in 148 receptions for 2,406 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns. After graduating Travis Rudolph, Kermit Whitfield, Jesus “Bobo” Wilson and Dalvin Cook, Florida State expected to have production from Phillips. Fisher and the ‘Noles open its 2017 season at new Mercedes-Benz Stadium versus the Crimson Tide on Saturday, Sept. 2.
No reports have surfaced on whether he will miss the game, but should FSU not have Phillips for the matchup — sophomore quarterback Deondre Francois could be at a disadvantage.
