TUSCALOOSA, Ala.– Alabama sophomore Jonah Williams made life easy for the rushing attack last week in the Crimson Tide’s 41-9 win at home over the Arkansas Razorbacks.
The five-star left tackle from California cleared the way for 496 total yards, including 308 yards rushing – en route to earning the Southeastern Conference’s Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Behind Williams, the Tide averaged 7.2 yards per carry and 7.8 yards a play.
He secured four knockdown blocks and graded out a team-high 92 percent on assignments, during 56 snaps at left tackle. Williams did not surrender a quarterback hurry or a sack, and guided running back Damien Harris to 125 yards with two touchdowns on nine carries.
Williams blocked for 23 first downs and four touchdowns in the red zone (five attempts).
Along with Harris’ two scores, the 6-foot-5 lineman set the edge for Najee Harris and quarterback Jalen Hurts as both reached the end zone. Bo Scarbrough even benefitted from Williams, totaling 65 yards rushing on seven carries – including a long run of 21 yards.
The 2016 signee was one of eight players recognized for SEC honors, joining DJ Chark and Devin White of LSU, Shea Patterson of Ole Miss, Daniel LaCamera of Texas A&M, Jake Fromm of Georgia, D.J. Wonnum of South Carolina and Marquis Haynes of Ole Miss.
Williams and the Tide now prepare for its rivalry game against Tennessee this week.
