Dominance remains in the cards for Alabama even after a bye week.
Head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide entered this week at No. 1 via the USA Today poll, as the first installment of College Football Playoff rankings are scheduled for Tuesday.
While the Tide resumes play against LSU at home, Georgia moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 in the polls upon its 42-7 victory over Florida. Conversations on whether the masses could see either two Southeastern Conference teams or two Big Ten schools in the top four of the playoff are still being debated; however, there is still more football to be played down the stretch.
Aside from Ohio State jumping three spots to No. 3, Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclones have been a pleasant surprise. The typical bottom feeder of the Big 12 is 6-2 and has pushed from No. 27 to No. 16 in the USA Today poll.
Much of the Cyclones’ rise has come from defeating Oklahoma and TCU, both of which were ranked in the top-10 prior to the games.
With Notre Dame still playing well and the Buckeyes knocking out Penn State, it will be interesting to see how the playoff committee goes about seeding the four best teams.
Alabama and Georgia are the lone two SEC schools in the top 10, while Auburn, LSU and Mississippi State make up the top 25 – standing at Nos. 15, 20 and 22 respectively.
