Alabama safety Deionte Thompson indicted on aggravated assault charge

Matt Bush - USA TODAY Sports

The situation occurred back in March.

Alabama defensive back Deionte Thompson was one of multiple people that was reported in being involved in a brawl, during spring break prior to the A-Day game.

Noah Frillou, the 18-year-old victim, was said to have suffered many broken bones among other things.

Despite filing an investigative report months ago, head coach Nick Saban and the University of Alabama football program found nothing. Thompson, a sophomore, has played in all eight games to this point and has 12 total tackles.

Along with becoming a stalwart on special teams, the native Texan has also been able to register some nice hits on defense.

Per a report from Matt Zenitz of AL.com, he’s been indicted on the aggravated assault that took place seven months ago.

In a statement released earlier today, Saban is not passing judgment on Thompson.

“We are continuing to follow the process of the legal proceedings of the matter. We are not going to make any judgments, until that process has been completed.”- Alabama coach Nick Saban

Sources close to Touchdown Alabama Magazine have stated numerous times that Thompson was not involved in the brawl, and that the assumed video evidence has nothing on him. These same sources also indicate that he should play this week as the Tide hosts LSU at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
