Normally a loss during the final week of the regular season completely ruins a school’s opportunity for playoff action in college football, but the University of Alabama is not one of those institutions.
Following a 26-14 defeat at the hands of Auburn in the Iron Bowl, the College Football Playoff committee unveiled its latest edition of rankings on Tuesday.
In honoring Wisconsin for a perfect regular season, the Badgers joined Oklahoma, Auburn and Clemson as one of the top four seeds.
The Crimson Tide, on the other hand, found itself with those on the outside looking in – as it stands at No. 5, in front of Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, Penn State and Southern California.
Despite enduring a multitude of injuries and having mental lapses against the Tigers, the plea from sophomore linebacker Mack Wilson paid off as the Tide could have another chance to be in the top four.
Alabama fans will be focused on the Big Ten and Big 12 Conference Championship Games this weekend. Should TCU upset Oklahoma or Ohio State knock out Wisconsin, Alabama returns to the driver’s seat. Auburn’s result versus Georgia in the Southeastern Conference title game may not mean much; however, the competitor in Nick Saban would love for the Tigers to win.
A rematch been the Tide and Tigers makes for epic proportions, and after seeing how Alabama handled LSU in the 2012 BCS title game, Saban would love nothing more than a part two.
